NYSD Track and Field - Catterick

There were wins for Jack Cooper in the u/13 Shot Putt and Lewis Rodgers in the senior 3000m.
Jack in his first shot competition threw a very respectable 7.02m which bodes well for the future, in the 100m he finished 4th in 15.2 sec.
The heavens opened for the 3000m race and Lewis had to set the pace and beat the conditions, he finished well clear in 9-31.7.
In the 1000m for u/15 girls Grace Rodgers finished in 4th place in 3-15.7 and Jess Parkes was 5th in the 100m in a time of 15.5 sec

Yorkshire Track & Field Championships -  Sat/Sun 12th and 13th May 07

Alec Duffield retained his Jun Men’s 3000m title on a very wet and cold day at Cudworth. A quick first lap by Alec split the field with only one other athlete willing to follow his pace, he soon realised that the conditions were not conducive to quick times and solo running so he slowed his pace and was happy to run the next 4 laps in 2nd place. At the bell Alec made his move with a 61sec lap to secure a decisive victory.
Earlier Dani Braithwaite finished in 3rd place in the U13 800m race, securing her first championship medal and reducing her pb by 7 secs.  In her heat she also finished in 3rd place in
2-41.9 to secure her place in the final as one of the fastest losers.  Dani exuded much more confidence in the final and with an increase in pace in the final straight she moved into 3rd place just missing out on 2nd place.  At the end she was delighted to be in the medals in a time of 2-36.2.  On the pervious day Megan Ellis competed in the U17 1500m where she finished 3rd in her heat in 5-06.3 which knocked 8 seconds off her previous pb.  In the final she finished in 7th place in
5-08.1.
Lewis Rodgers opted for the shorter distance of 800m so that he could attend the last football match of the season at Middlesbrough and he finished in 8th place in a time equal to his pb of
2-06.3.
Grace Rodgers now running in the U15 age group equalled her pb in the 800m with a time of
2-34.5.

Anne Marie Readshaw Open 15th April 2007

The first two T & F events were held in brilliant sunshine at Cleveland Stadium and Shildon.

At the Cyril Elliott meeting we only had 3 competitors from the club. In the 100m senior ladies Helen Bostock recorded 14.9 and in the S.P. she had a pb with a throw of 7.87m.Catherine Urban in the u/12 600m finished in 2-14.8 and in the u/12 boys race Shane Hicks ran a very fast time of 1-52.6 to finish in 4th place. In the cricket ball throw he was a very decisive winner with a throw of 40.21m.

We had more athletes at the Shildon meeting and in the first events 11yrd old Jack Cooper qualified for the 100m final in the u/13 age group where he finished in 5th place in 15.3 sec, later on in the day he finished in 2nd place in the 200m in a time of 32.00 secs
Helen Bostock again doubled up in the 100m and S.P which unfortunately coincided with each other. She ran 14.9  and was only able to take two of her throws ,her best being 7.53m.
We had a good representation in the 800m events. In the u/13 race Dani Braithwaite finished 5th in 2-43.9 and in the same event Catherine Urban ran 3-00.4 and Megan Trowsdale 3-27.0.
In the u/15 race Grace Rodgers finished in 10th place with a time of 2-44.5 and in the u/17 race Megan Ellis ran a pb with a time of 2-25.6 to finish in 4th place and Hope Rodgers recorded 2-45.4.
Megan Ellis doubled up in the 3000m and ran a very controlled race to finish in 2nd place in 11-21.6. Lewis Rodgers was hoping for a strong field in his 3000m race to push him to a fast time, unfortunately he was the only senior in the mixed senior and boys race. He soon opened up a big lead which increased every lap but without anyone to push him he won by at least 100m in a time of 9-33.8
Charly Rodgers running her first race on the track ran the u/11 600m in 2-22.6 to finish in 7th place.

Guisborough Track 3000m event, 18th October 2006
On a cold still night where the fog lingered, Guisborough track was filled with steamy men and woman.  I’m afraid its not that dramatic, rather it was the 3000m race with a number of keen Loftus and Whitby runners taking part.  Despite various moans and excuses following Tony’s tough Tuesday session our runners did pretty well, with most of them finishing ahead of estimated times.  In the first heat, won by Shaun O’Grady in 9.17, Lewis ran a strong race out on his own and finished in 9.35, Andy was next in followed by Rob and Bill looking comfortable in preparation for his marathon.  Dave rounded off the heat choosing to run with a young girl who got the better of him on the last lap.  In heat two, the elite race, Freddy set the perfect example with consistent splits and a sprint finish.  Mally also ran consistently keeping Jo company before Don came in…all with new, (post veteran!) PBs and burning chests!

York Open Meeting 10th September
In hot sunny conditions reminiscent of the July meeting at York the young runners from the club had a very successful day.  The open meeting attracted a large entry especially in the U13 and U11 girls and officials had a very difficult task to get through the programme.
Dani Braithwaite started the medal haul with 3rd place in the U13 1500m with a time of 5.39.7.  Jess Parkes competed in the U13 100m and Long Jump where she finished in 10th place and 18th place with a time of 15.0 and a distance of 3.04 respectively.  Jade McCourt, in her first track event ran the 75m in 12.9 (15th place), the 600m in 2.21.7 (16th).  Megan Trowsdale also ran the 600m in 2.15.3 (12th) and the Long Jump in 2.91m (11th).
Joe Hoggarth got a full set of medals with 1st place in the 600m in a very fast time of 1.53.4 which also broke the event record.  Earlier he had run in the 75m where he finished in 3rd place in 11.6 and then competed in the Long Jump where he finished in 2nd place with a jump of 3.49m.
In one of the best races of the day Grace Rodgers had led from the gun with a Holmfirth girl always on her shoulder.  In the back straight Grace managed to open a small gap which she held onto to the finish to win in 2.34.2 which broke the club record which she established at the Yorkshire Champs.
This was a very good end to the track season and I am sure was enjoyed by all watching and taking part.  If anyone wants full results I can forward them through email. Tony.
