To Helvellyn and back!
All club runners know what fun
When we get chance to go for a run
I find it does increase my pace
When running in a competitive race

Ravenscar was full! “No, what a bummer”
So I had a look on Northern Fellrunner
I found Glaramara Fell Race in Borrowdale
Enter on the day, so even I can't fail

I came on the Friday for a few days in The Lakes
It's a while since I have had one of those walking breaks
My first walk was up Orrest Head
Wainwrights first peak so it was said

Onto Troutbeck and Ambleside
Then back to Windermere with a boat ride.
Nine o clock Saturday, parkrun time
From Keswick along the old railway line

A route I walked in my childhood years
With Mam, Dad and Brother, when they were here
I finished 28thbut I ran my best
After all I was wearing the Loftus vest

After lunch I went to walk some fells
I even saw Llamas on Catbells
On Sunday the race was at one o clock
I got there on a bus with an open top

I got my bib number for the run
Thirteen it is what could go wrong?
We all lined up for the start of the race
We set off at a reasonable pace

Through the farmyard then the 4k climb
Two thousand five hundred and sixty nine
Feet to the summit cairn
Then another 4k down again

The runner in front of me meandered off route
Like a fool I followed suit
We soon picked up the proper track
I even passed a couple on the way back

Finish at the centre, free tea and cake
A nice way to finish a beautiful race
Then Monday came, I'd made a pledge
To once again do Striding Edge

Once again the weather was kind
Which pleased me as I had to mind?
My footing and not slip
There really are some tricky bits

Then the last scramble to the top
Of Helvellyn for the photo shots
Down Swirral Edge around Red Tarn
And back to Patterdale again

The White Lion it does very nice food
Not to have some would be rude
Tuesday morning on the way back
I walked from Gargrave to Skipton on the towpath

Then home again for a local run
Roseberry Romp was lots of fun
So despite missing Ravenscar on line
I still had a lovely time!
