MULGRAVE RUN - 5TH JULY 2009 REPORT

new

The first Mulgrave run was held in perfect conditions with the majority of the race taking place in the beautiful woods of Mulgrave and passed by the partially restored old castle.

The new sports ground in Lythe was used as the finish area and the pavilion provided first class facilities for the runners.  Although the number of entrants was lower than anticipated the feedback from those taking part was very positive.

After running side by side in the early part of the race Lewis Rodgers managed to move clear of John Hunter, both members of Loftus & Whitby to win the 14k race in 55-10.  2nd place went to John in 57-02 and third was Alistair MacDonald in 1-00-55.

A very impressive run from Angharad Owen, Loftus & Whitby, saw her finish 8th overall in a time of 1-06-10.  Second lady was Julie Mastrolonardo, Loftus & Whitby, in 1-10-33 and third place was ultra distance specialist Sharon Gaytor, North York Moors, in 1-13-23.

Prior to the senior race two junior races were held from the Sports Pavilion.  The Under 11 race was won by Alice Hoggarth, 2nd girl was Maddy Mastrolonardo and 3rd girl was Natasha Kent.  The boy’s race went to Cameron Price with George Jackson and Jono Urban 2nd and 3rd respectively.  The Over 11 race was won by Shane Hicks with Ben Mead 2nd.  The third boy was Jack Archer.  Charlie Rodgers finished 3rd overall and 1st girl.  Lucy Hoggarth and Cody Swales were the 2nd and 3rd girls to finish.

The ladies from the Mulgrave Community Sports Association provided a wonderful selection of refreshments.  Help was provided by Whitby Rotary Club members who covered some of the marshalling positions.

The Community Sports Association is keen to make this an annual event and so hopefully the success of the event will spread to the Athletic Clubs via the runners who took part.

NOTE:

The inaugural Mulgrave Run was made possible by the woods' owners, the Mulgrave Estate.
John Hoyes, Mulgrave Estate Resident Agent, said: "We're delighted the first Mulgrave Run was such a success. It is a pleasure so many runners young and old were able to enjoy the woods, as well as the fantastic new pavilion and sports ground – well done to all of them and to the organisers: Mulgrave Community Sports Association and Loftus and Whitby Athletic Club."
"We hope it will be the first of many Mulgrave Events."
